At the heart of the harvest

"Au coeur des vendanges" (at the heart of the harvest) is an event that takes place when summer is coming to an end, when the grapes are gorged with sugar and the vines are discreetly adorned with touches of gold: it is harvest time. This event takes place throughout Switzerland and aims to allow visitors to discover the harvest period. This moment is the consecration of the work accomplished throughout the year by wine producers. During a half-day, visitors are immersed in the harvest work alongside the producers to experience moments of rare intensity through demanding but very rewarding work. It is also an opportunity to share and discuss the wine. creation process in order to discover all its secrets.

We went to a vineyard near Zurich that had an amazing view of the lake. The event started early on Saturday and before we even knew it we were in the vineyards, boots covered in mud, secateurs in hand, to help with the harvest. It was really cool to know that this grape will become a local wine that we can then find in the shops of Zurich. Later, we sat in the sun to taste the wine and a local dish while listening to the winemaker's stories. If you are a wine enthusiast, you will love this event.

The 2021 edition of 'Au coeur des vendanges' was pure joy for me: an experience filled with smiles and pleasure. Opening our doors as part of the national day 'Au coeur des vendanges' gives meaning to our profession: people were amazed to discover behind the scenes and understand what we do. It's a joy to have been able to share our passion, to have created links and to have been able to raise awareness of all the work that goes into a bottle of wine.

Annie Rossi, oenologist and manager of Domaine de la Grillette in Cressier, Neuchatel

What I liked most about the first edition of 'Au coeur des vendanges' was the closeness with the growers and their desire to share their know-how. Discovering their work during a day was very instructive! The event ended with a superb meal and the weather was on our side all day!

The audience was very cosmopolitan. We had people from Singapore, England, Geneva, the canton of Vaud and German-speaking Switzerland. It is important for us to show that there are vineyards in Switzerland and to make consumers aware that behind a bottle there are grapes and work.
